This trail is a combination of a decomissioned paved road and an unpaved road, forming a loop that is a great length and safe for dog walking and family cycling. Two paved spurs connect the eastern part of the trail to Las Virgenes Road, while Tapia Spur Trail connects Dorothy Drive northwest and southeast to different parts of Malibu State Park. Within the Dorothy Drive loop are open spaces and forested areas. The staging area directly adjacent to the loop makes the trail very accessible.

Dorothy Drive can be accessed from the main parking area at Tapia County Park, located approximately 3 miles south of the main entrance to Malibu Creek State Park on Las Virgenes Rd. The trailhead is at the southern end of parking lot.
